An evil killer who bludgeoned a vulnerable woman to death with a power saw has been jailed after her body was found in woodland.

Neculai Paizan, 64, has been sent behind bars for at least 22 years as part of a life sentence for his brutal murder of Agnes Dora Akom, 20, who was reported missing on May 11 last year.

The Romanian national was found guilty by an Old Bailey jury before Judge Richard Marks QC jailed him for life on Monday morning.

He told him: “It is clear on your lengthy evidence that you remain in a complete state of denial as to what you did in that frenzy of violence that took away that young girl’s life at the age of 20.

“These were shocking acts of wickedness on your part.”

In his sentencing remarks the judge praised the Metropolitan Police for the “exceptional” work in bringing Paizan to justice.

Paizan battered Agnes over the head more than 20 times with a power saw in a converted shipping container before dumping her body inside a wheelie bin.

Police released images caught on CCTV of the man using the bin to move her body, before he buried it under a pile of logs in a park.

In the months leading up to the murder, Paizan had been spotted with Ms Akom several times near the shipping container where he lived in Brent, north-west London.

Ms Akom was reported missing on May 11 last year, two days after leaving her flat in Cricklewood Broadway having told her partner that she was going to work.

She exchanged messages with Paizan between 10-11am on the day she left, and also messaged a man she worked for and had an 'intimate relationship' with.

She booked an Uber to go to the other man's house, but Paizan arrived at the cafe where she was sitting before she left and, after an exchange, she got into his silver Dacia Sandero.

CCTV was played to the court which showed the pair entering the grey metal home together.

Paizan was seen leaving the container half an hour later, going to a nearby tap to wash off bloodstains.

Just after 3:30pm he dragged items from his shipping container and put them in the boot of his car, discarding Ms Akom's white fur coat, a rolled carpet, clothing, pink slip-on shoes and a jigsaw matted with her blood and hair.

Cops found a blood stain on the spine of a bible on a shelf in the shipping container, and a DNA sample taken from it matched Ms Akom's profile.

Paizan denied murdering his victim and instead claimed to have passed out after Agnes gave him a drugged iced tea, and when he came around he found her dead.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil John previously said: "The level of violence Paizan used in his attack on Agnes is truly horrific. What she suffered inside the container does not bear thinking about."
