Ten passengers presumed dead after plane crashes into bay

Ten people – including one child – are presumed dead after float plane crashes into bay near Seattle: Coast guard finds one body as search continues into the night

Ten people including one child are presumed dead after a float plane crashed into Washington’s Mutiny Bay on Sunday.  

The US Coast Guard crews responded to a report of a float plane that crashed in Mutiny Bay, just west of Whidbey Island, the USCG Pacific Northwest tweeted.

The Coast Guard initially tweeted that nine people were on board the plane, but later confirmed it to be 10 people, accounting for the pilot. 

One body has been recovered and the others remain unaccounted for, USCG tweeted.

‘Search updates will be provided as they become available,’ USCG wrote in a tweet.

The plane took off from Friday Harbor, a popular tourist destination in the San Juan Islands, and was en route to Renton, Washington when it crashed, the Coast Guard reported. 

The crash happened in Mutiny Bay, off Whidbey Island, about 40 miles northwest of Seattle. 

The cause of the crash was not immediately available.
