Shark spotted near waters where young mother was ripped apart in horror attack

A shark was spotted in the waters in South Africa just a week after a young mother was killed by a shark near the same area.

The video of the shark was taken on Friday (September 30) in Plettenberg Bay and posted on social media where it went viral.

Following the death of 39-year-old Kimon "Kiki" Bisogno last week Sunday, all the beaches in Plettenberg Bay were closed.

The 39-year-old mother was attacked and tragically killed by a shark while she was swimming from the direction of the Beacon Isle Hotel in South Africa.

It is believed that her husband and baby were on the beach with friends when people began to scream.

Craig Lambinon, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson, said that the local NSRI and South African Police Service (SAPS) were activated following reports reports of a fatal shark incident at Central Beach.

“The sea rescue craft Eric Stratford was launched. On arrival at the scene, the body of a woman from Cape Town was recovered from the water and brought to the beach.”

The public has been warned to be cautious along the Plettenberg Bay and Southern Cape coastline with shark attacks in the area becoming more common.

Shark activity has been ramping up of late with the NSRI issuing a shark alert for Plettenberg Bay due to increasing shark activity earlier this month.

The Institute previously said sharks were feeding on a Humpback whale carcass that was continually drifting closer to shore while signs urging the public to be aware of their surroundings and shark bite kits are being placed at beaches in the Bay.

Earlier this year in June, a man was killed by a shark at Sanctuary Beach in Plettenberg Bay.
