A paramotoring pilot lost his life in a horrific crash when he came down with a thud on a Brazilian beach.

Harrowing footage shows Sandro Antonio Schons landing sideways on Calhau Beach in Sao Luis at about 4pm yesterday.

Seconds earlier, Sandro – who was the owner of a local bar – had been spotted flying over the busy beach on his paraglider before the 52-year-old suddenly lost altitude.

His identity has been confirmed by local authorities.

Reports said he plummeted from a height of about 35 feet and was knocked out when he hit the sand.

Sandro was given first-aid at the scene and actually regained consciousness.

But after he’d been rushed to hospital, he later succumbed to his injuries.

The cause of the dreadful accident is still being looked into, but firefighters suspect engine failure may be to blame.

Another possibility being considered is that his safety equipment was damaged by a fighter kite with a line that had been coated with crushed glass.

Paramotoring is a form of aviation in which the pilot wears a backpack motor that provides enough thrust to take off using a paraglider.

A couple of months ago, footage emerged of a Brazilian man who managed to avoid death by the skin of his teeth.

Yanis Teriz, 35, was paramotoring when a tear in the wing saw him spin out of control. He managed to untangle his parachute only in the nick of time, with footage of the drama showing him hurtling towards the ground.

As he plunged 2,500ft at hundreds of miles an hour, Yanis could be seen chucking out his emergency chute – but it got tangled in his paragliding lines

He deployed the parachute with just moments to spare.

Afterwards he said it was “the closest I have come to certain death” – but it didn’t stop him going straight back in the air after the incident, which happened in July 2020.
