Kevin O’Brien, wanted in Lakewood for a child sex assault case is arrested in Virginia.

A child sex assault felon who was wanted on a probation violation in Colorado has been arrested in Virginia.

Kevin O’Brien, 52, was taken into custody on Oct. 7 by the U.S. Marshals Service in a small town near Richmond, according to a Lakewood Police Department news release.

In 2021, O’Brien was arrested by Lakewood police for investigation of attempted sexual assault on a child and internet luring of a child, according to the release. He was sentenced to 36 months probation and required to register as a sex offender.

During probation, O’Brien was charged in Adams County with sexual exploitation of a child, resulting in his Jefferson County probation being revoked. He failed to register as a sex offender, failed to appear in court and fled the state, according to police.

A Lakewood investigator determined that O’Brien was in the Richmond area, and in September a Lakewood agent contacted the fugitive under the guise of meeting for a sexual encounter. O’Brien’s whereabouts were pinpointed, and he was arrested at a coffee shop without incident. He is awaiting extradition to Colorado.
