Jefferson County parents killed in apparent murder-suicide

A man and woman were killed in an apparent murder-suicide in Jefferson County Saturday, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a home in the 16200 block of W. Ellsworth Avenue at about 4:35 p.m. after two young children rang a neighbor’s doorbell to ask for help “with their parents,” according to the sheriff’s office.

The neighbor went to the children’s home and discovered the children’s father shot on the front porch and their mother shot in a car parked in front of the home, according to the sheriff’s office. Both parents were unresponsive and were dead by the time deputies arrived, according to the sheriff’s office.

The children were not hurt. Their parents have not been publicly identified, and the sheriff’s office did not share additional details about which parent carried out the attack.

“All indications are that this is a domestic-related murder-suicide,” spokeswoman Jacki Kelley said in a news release.
