A new video shows Bill Cosby moments after his prison release describing how he was ‘surprised’ when the guards told him he was free to go.
The stand-up comedian and convicted sex offender’s publicist and crisis manager Andrew Wyatt posted the video to his Instagram page on Thursday, celebrating the one year anniversary of Cosby’s release from prison.
In the video, which was filmed by Wyatt a year ago, Cosby, 84, described the moment he was told he was a ‘free man.’
‘I was in the bed, in the cot, when they opened the door because it’s one o’clock and about four or five guys yelling: ‘Bill, get up. You’re going home,’ the disgraced star said.
Cosby recalled thinking the guards were calling him to bathe, as he said he ‘put my shower shoes on the wrong feet.’
The guards apparently corrected his line of thinking, telling him: ‘No, no, no, you don’t understand, you’re free,’ Cosby recalled in the video.
‘I said what is it? Juneteenth?’ he joked as Wyatt cackled in the background. ‘But, man, when I left…murderers, rapists, bank robbers, wife beaters [were] all clapping,’ he said.
The pair celebrated that Cosby would no longer be called a ‘violent sex offender.’
However, the used-to-be Hollywood star was only released from prison on a technicality. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that prosecutors in the case had violated his rights by reneging on a promise not to charge him – not that he didn’t do what he was found guilty of.
Cosby was convicted of drugging and molesting Andrea Constand.

In March, the United States Supreme Court declined to review the Pennsylvania decision, meaning Cosby will remain free for the time being.
Wyatt released a statement on Monday saying he was grateful for the decision. Women’s rights activists, however, reacted with disappointment.
Attorney Lisa Bloom tweeted: ‘A year ago, I broke down why Bill Cosby won his appeal: because an inexplicably friendly prosecutor blew the case. Today, the Supreme Court decided not to hear it, allowing Cosby to remain free.
‘More than 60 women, including my clients, accused him of rape. He is NOT exonerated.’
Cosby only spent two years and 10 months behind bars after being imprisoned in September 2018.
‘It’s like it never happened,’ Wyatt happily said as he filmed the new video.
‘I’m a free man,’ Cosby said, with a faint bit of shock in his voice before he slammed the media for ‘making a lot of money.’

He later told Wyatt that he needed to ‘go in the house and rest’ because his ‘heart was just happy.’
As they approached Cosby’s home, he kept his window up and his seat reclined backwards as the media swarmed his front entrance.
On Instagram yesterday, Bill Cosby boasted that he has enjoyed ‘one year of freedom [at] home with my family,’ just days after a court ordered him to pay $500,000 to Judy Huth, another woman he allegedly assaulted.
The disgraced TV star posted a picture to Instagram wearing a bright yellow shirt with the caption: ‘After two years and 10 months fighting for my life and the truth – one year of freedom home with my family sure looks good on me (At least that’s what my wife says).’
Huth’s lawsuit was one of the last remaining legal claims against him after his insurer settled many others against his will.
Cosby did not attend the trial or testify in person, but short clips from a 2015 video deposition were played for jurors, in which he denied any sexual contact with Huth.

Wyatt told DailyMail.com last week that his client was thrilled with Judge Craig Karlan’s verdict – due to the fact the jury didn’t award Huth millions.
‘[Cosby] said: “That’s a victory, not having to pay Huth punitive legal bills,”‘ Wyatt said Wednesday, revealing he called Cosby immediately after the verdict to tell him of the lack of punitive damages.
‘He was happy that no punitive [damages] were awarded,’ Wyatt told DailyMail.com.
‘What? That’s all?’ the comic reportedly asked, according to TMZ – before being met with a celebratory ‘booyah!’ from his PR specialist.
Last week, an LA civil court ordered Cosby to pay $500,000 to the 64-year-old, who accused the convicted sex offender of sexually assaulting her at the Playboy Mansion in 1975.
Huth was 16 at the time.
Cosby has been accused by more than 60 women of rape, drug-facilitated sexual assault, sexual battery, child sexual abuse, and sexual misconduct.
The alleged incidents span from 1965 to 2008.
When did Cosby walk free?
In late 2014, a flurry of sexual assault allegations against Cosby first appeared, dating between the mid-1960s and 2008.
He was imprisoned in September 2018 on three counts of sexual assault and sentenced to three to ten years behind bars.
Yet after two years and ten months, Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned Cosby’s conviction on the grounds of ‘due process violations.’
Justice David Wecht wrote: ‘Even though society has a strong interest in prosecuting crimes, it has an even stronger interest in ensuring that the constitutional rights of the people are vindicated.’
He was released later on June 30, 2021.
In March 2022, the United States Supreme Court declined to review the Pennsylvania decision.
Cosby will remain free for the time being.
