Nigel Farage reacts to ‘astonishing’ polling showing popularity over Rishi Sunak

Farage reveals what it would take to rejoin the Tories

Nigel Farage hailed “astonishing” polling showing he is now more popular than Rishi Sunak with Tory voters after his I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! appearance.

The survey by JL Partners gave the former Ukip leader a net popularity rating of 18 with 2019 Conservative backers.

Some 46 percent of Tory supporters at the last general election hold a positive opinion, while 28 percent are negative.

The Brexit architect has shot up from a score of one – 37 percent positive and 36 percent negative – before his stint on the ITV reality show.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister’s net approval rating with 2019 Tory voters is minus three, with 35 percent positive and 39 percent negative.

Mr Farage is also more popular than Mr Sunak among the wider public.

The ex-MEP has a net rating of minus 29, while the Prime Minister is on minus 41.

Reacting to the survey, Mr Farage said: “Well, have you seen the polling has been released overnight? I’m absolutely astonished by it, I’ve just seen some online, suggesting that amongst 2019 Conservative voters, my approval rating has risen 20 percent in my time in the jungle, putting me 21 percent ahead of Rishi.

“Well, it’s all very flattering, a little bit bewildering. It’s gonna take some time for me to sort of really take it on board. But fascinating, right?”

The polling of 2,000 people for The Sun was carried out on November 17 and then again on December 10 after Mr Farage reached the final of I’m A Celebrity and came third.

It comes amid speculation over whether the GB News presenter will make a political comeback.

He has refused to rule out one day rejoining the Conservative Party but insisted he would not do so while Mr Sunak is at the helm.

Mr Farage told Monday’s Good Morning Britain: “I don’t think under this leadership there is very much prospect of that.

“I am looking at a Conservative Government that is in total shambles, facing tomorrow effectively a confidence vote on an issue that affects every single living human being in our country, namely immigration on a level that never happened even during Tony Blair’s days.

“Rishi is a lame duck walking and the Conservative Party are headed for total defeat.”

Mr Farage was previously a Tory member but left in 1992 following the signing of an EU treaty.
