What happened to Charley Bates murderer Joshua Delbono?

On April 11, 2023, Joshua Delbono was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty of murdering Charley.

He was told he must serve at least 21 years behind bars following a two week long trial at Bristol Crown Court in April 2023.

Delbono was arrested after his mother handed him into the police over the phone.

She told handlers: "My son's killed someone… he's in my house now but I can't let him go anywhere."

Delbono admitted to stabbing Charley, but denied murder as he said he was defending a friend.

He also claimed to have got rid of the weapon at the scene, something that was proved to be false.

After fleeing the scene of the crime in a car with his friend, Delbono stopped at a lake half an hour away to dispose of the murder weapon and burn some of the clothes he had been wearing during the killing.

Police later found mobile phone footage of this on his girlfriend's phone.
