FURIOUS residents living near a new Lidl supermarket say construction works are shaking their homes like an earthquake – and it's been dragging out for weeks.

Mohammed Adis, 70, is one of the many living near the North Yorkshire supermarket site and says the works shake him awake in the morning and he can't open his doors or windows without dust filling his home.

He and his neighbours have now slammed Lidl after being plagued by the daily shaking, dust, and noise since demolition started on a former art school to make way for the retail giant.

And now, after nearly a month of disruption, many are also concerned about the structural integrity of their beloved homes.

One of those is Mohammed, who lives with his son just two houses from the site.

The OAP fumed: "The whole house shakes when they are working. It starts from 7.30 in the morning, and continues until 5pm.

"Sometimes the shaking wakes me up in the morning, it feels like an
earthquake.

"The dust gets everywhere, whenever you open a window or door it flies in.

"It's very difficult to clean and our roof is covered in the stuff.

"I just hope there is no damage to our home or the roof, it makes you worry because of how much the house moves.

"Thankfully, the children aren't in school at the moment because it would be dangerous for them to walk past the site."

A Lidl spokeswoman said on-site contractors had been speaking with concerned residents and while they were yet to find evidence of damage, they had been making adjustments to help minimise disruption.

However, another resident of Linthorpe, Middlesbrough, is adamant the work has busted his roof and caused cracks in his home.

Michael Bryn's property backs onto the site and he said: "There's cracks in the kitchen that weren't there before.

"The construction has caused damage to our roof as it's sunk.

"I don't think they've put adequate protection there to stop things from coming into our home.

"We don't want to complain or block what's happening we just want
communication and for our home to be restored."

Plus, the 46-year-old added: "The summer has been ruined.

There's cracks in the kitchen that weren't there before.

"We have a lovely outdoor area and we eat out here most nights in the summer but we haven't been able to do that.

"Rubble and glass has come into our garden."

Residents Javeria Nadeem, 28, and Rucsana Mahmood, 39, who are neighbours living opposite the site mirrored much of the others' concerns.

A Lidl spokeswoman told The Sun there had been widespread support for the new store, and nearby residents had been kept up to date with the work.

The spokeswoman said: "In July we wrote to thousands of households inviting them to participate in the public consultation and share feedback, and the proposals have since received widespread support. 

"Additionally, we wrote to all local residents informing them of the demolition works prior to works commencing.

"Our teams are in direct contact with local residents regarding demolition works and continue working hard to ensure that any disruption is kept to a minimum.

"The demolition works are due to finish in the next few weeks."

She added that contractors were "yet to receive any evidence to verify the reported damage".
