A tourist has died after having her 'arm and leg' ripped off in a savage shark attack.

The Austrian woman, 68, later died in an ambulance from “shock" after the beast set upon her at Sahl Hasheesh, a popular bay on the Red Sea coast of Egypt, close to Sharm El Sheikh.

A large crowd watched the drama but no-one was seen entering the water to help the woman, who lived in Egypt with her native partner.

Instead, people filmed the dramatic scene, and Russian tourists shooting footage could be heared complaining of a lack of life guards or rescuers.

The woman was left to fend for herself and is seen in the clip wearing a flipper and to make her way back to a pier.

Blood is also seen in the water as the woman struggles.

Russian witnesses saw that she had lost an arm but did not mention the severed leg.

One said: “People are rushing out of the sea. There's no ambulance, there's no-one helping her. She's got no arm – up to her elbow.

“The shark grabbed her and twisted her around.”

On one video, watching Russians are heard saying: “Where are the rescuers?

“F***, she's covered in blood. Holy ****.

“The shark bit her arm off. Holy **** Where's the rescue team?

“Where's the shark? For f****’s sake. Life guards? Where are the life guards?

“She's going to f***ing die!”

In fact, the woman made it to the shore alive but later died.

"Doctors fought for her life for a long time, giving her cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but she could not be saved," said one account.

Egyptian outlets and RIA Novosti, a Russian news agency, reported that the woman had died.

In the wake of the Friday attack, swimming, diving, snorkelling and fishing from the Sahl Hasheesh area to Makadi Bay was prohibited for three days, said local reports.
