Teen, 17, arrested on suspicion of murder after woman found dead inside home

A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the body of a woman was found in Brighton.

Police were called at around 6.55pm yesterday, Thursday, January 7, to a residence in Cedars Gardens, Withdean, Brighton.

When officers arrived they found a woman, aged 69, had died.

A 17-year-old boy has since been arrested on suspicion of murder.

He is currently in custody for interview and further enquiries, police have said.

They also stated the boy and woman were believed to be known to each other.

Police are not currently looking for anyone else in relation to the murder investigation, and urge that there is no risk to the local community.

The investigation is being carried out by detectives from the Surrey and Sussex Major Crime Team as well as local officers.

A cordon is in place around the home, with police still at the scene overnight.

Police vehicles were also parked outside while officers continued their investigations into the incident.

It's also believed forensics were called to the scene, with camera and a CSI kit spotted near the property.

At this stage, police have not released information on the cause of death of the 69-year-old woman.

In a statement, they've said there is no further information regarding the incident at this time.
