Met Office maps exact areas expecting coronation weekend wash-out

Early forecasts suggest some parts of Britain are set to bask in hot weather for the King’s Coronation weekend, while some suffer sporadic showers. The Met Office has issued an update on how it thinks next weekend will pan out, but it is still not confirming a blanket “mini heatwave” for all of the country.
Many people will be setting out to host garden and street parties, and crowds of people are expected to line the streets of London.
With so much riding on the weather, the Met Office has explained how this coming week will look, and what people can expect in the run up to the historical event.
The first half of next week, it says, is likely to be dominated by high pressure with “fewer” showers around. In short, it means warmer weather is expected.
But the second half of next week is creating a bit of uncertainty as low pressure arrives back on the scene, sparking a somewhat colder period. However, it’s not for everyone.
Forecasters say it looks likely to move closer to southwestern areas, bringing the threat of more “changeable” conditions once again.
“With the air being drawn from southeast, this may allow temperatures to rise across southern areas into the low 20C but also introduce a chance of heavy showers which may be thundery,” it added.
“If you are planning to be out and about next weekend for the Coronation, it is difficult to give lots of detail about the weather this far in advance.
“However indications are we will see a mix of sunshine and showers. Keep an eye on the weather forecasts for updates.”
What does the long-range forecast say?
From May 4 to 18 it says: “On Thursday, widely settled, dry conditions with clear and sunny periods for most.
“Some thick cloud and associated outbreaks of rain are more likely in the far north and northeast. Throughout the day there is an increasing risk of showery outbreaks of rain, with a slight chance of thunder, moving into the southwest.
“Into the weekend, this cloud with a mix of showers and more prolonged rain is expected to spread northeastwards, some of which could be heavy and thundery.
“For the rest of the period, high pressure to the northeast of the UK will bring drier and cooler conditions further north, whereas low pressure to the southwest means a higher chance of showers and warmer conditions in the south.

Looking into the end of May it adds: “Confidence is low for this period, with fairly equal chances of fine or changeable weather.
“However, there is a slightly higher than normal chance of unsettled weather in the south.
“Winds expected to be generally light. Temperatures are more likely to be above average overall.
