Met Office issues fog warning as Brits faced with morning travel chaos

The occurrence of fog is set to cause travel chaos for many Brits after the Met Office issued a yellow warning for fog.

With temperatures beginning to dip to freezing conditions, the fog is also something the public are facing with drivers expected to encounter it in some areas of the UK today (December 1).

The yellow warning issued by the forecaster is to run from 4am until 11am, covering large areas of southwestern England and south Wales, Daily Mirror reports.

The weather service's warning states: "Fog patches causing difficult driving conditions and perhaps some travel disruption."

They say that the public should expect "slower journey times with delays to bus and train services possible" and that "there is a chance of delays or cancellations to flights."

Met Office forecaster Clare Nasir says frosty conditions and fog brought by clearer skies in the south of the UK are expected to be "dense, stubborn and fairly widespread".

She adds: "Some clearer skies across central and southern parts of England and Wales allowing for a frost as well as fog, this fog could be dense, stubborn and fairly widespread as we enter Thursday.

"First thing on Thursday morning, cold towards the south, watch out for that frost. Further north it is cloudy and also rather damp."

As we enter the month of December, temperatures continue to dwindle with central England not expected to reach higher than 7C today.

However, those residing in the far north of Scotland are likely to experience a less painful 11C due to a breeze.

Weather maps from WXCharts shows the first period of snowfall this season arriving in Wales, the Scottish Highlands as well as areas of the Pennines on Sunday morning (December 4).
