Meghan ‘only faced negativity about her ambition’ when she started dating Harry

Meghan Markle has used her first podcast episode to reveal that she only began having negative feelings about her ambitious personality after she began dating Prince Harry.

The Duchess of Sussex released the first episode of her long-awaited podcast series Archetypes today (August 23), revealing that her son Archie had made a narrow escape from a fire during a royal tour

The premiere episode featured long-term friend and tennis sensation Serena Williams, with the pair discussing the athlete’s imminent retirement from the sport and the double standards women face when they are labelled ambitious.

And, Meghan also admitted that she had struggled with criticism about her ambition after associating with the Royal Family.

"I don't remember ever personally feeling the negative connotation behind the word ambitious until I started dating my now husband," she said.

Serena Williams also revealed Harry had helped her with the decision to retire from tennis before she made the announcement earlier this month, spending around an hour discussing the issue with her.

Meghan, who made her own decision to change paths when she stepped down as a working royal, said: "I think, you know, I think both of us, or the three of us, really know that sometimes the right decision isn't the easiest decision.

"It takes a lot of courage, I think, too, to stop something in many ways than to keep going sometimes."

The release of the podcast comes nearly two years after Meghan first signed a lucrative deal with Spotify.

It follows the news that another project, an animated series called Pearl, had been cancelled by Netflix among a series of cuts at the streaming giant.

The decision to sign significant contracts with Netflix and Spotify came soon after Meghan and Harry stepped down from their royal duties, and the couple's rift with the royal family appears to have widened since.

The Sussexes are set to return to the UK together next month for the first time since their trip for the Queen's Jubilee, but they have not publicly announced whether they will meet up with their Royal Family members.
