Influencer pair who thought sunlight was food source arrested after baby starved

An influencer and his wife who believed sunlight was a source of food have been arrested after their baby died of "prolonged starvation".

Oxana Mironova, 33, is currently under investigation for causing death by negligence while her partner, Maxim Lyutyi, 43, was arrested for resisting police.

The duo had been described as those who believed they could "feed on sunlight" and it has since been revealed their one-month-old baby died of a "prolonged starvation".

Lyutyi, described as a "radical raw foodist", and partner Mironova had founded a club focusing on improving the health of its members, named "The Living Man".

Mironova has since been placed under house arrest for two months by a judge, while blogger Lyutyi is said to have tried implementing his "nutrition system" on the baby, The Sun reported.

A Russian Investigative Committee looking into the report has opened a criminal case after the baby died at a hospital near Sochi, believed to be suffering from pneumonia as a result of the starvation.

The baby, said to have been born near the city of Sochi, a Black Sea resort city, may have died after being transferred to "pranta-eating".

Local media made the claim as Lyutyi frequently advised feeding off the sun's energy as a replacement for food and water.

The bizarre method, which sees the blogger reject conventional food and water for the energy and nourishment given off by the sun, was reported as a potential reason behind the one-month-old's death.

According to reports in Zvezda News, the preliminary inquiry into the youngster's death showed it had died of "severe exhaustion".

The report read: "The preliminary version of the infant's death is severe exhaustion…that the blogger tried to instil his nutrition system in the baby."

The pair have both been arrested and a police investigation is currently underway.
