Chilling moment killer reports girlfriend missing after murdering her

Chilling moment killer who savagely beat his girlfriend to death at home reports her missing to police – as murderous thug is convicted of raping two other women

  • Frank Farrell, 38, is currently serving life for brutal murder of Smita Mistry, 32

This is the chilling moment a murderous thug calmly walked into a police station to report his girlfriend missing – two days after beating her to death in her home.

Frank Farrell left Smita Mistry, 32, with a fatal brain haemorrhage when he savagely beat her around the head, face and torso in the early hours of March 21, 2021.

The 38-year-old carried out the brutal killing after barging his way into the victim’s property in Gedge Way, Leicester, while ignoring her pleas for him to leave.

Farrell was found guilty of murder following a trial and was jailed for life with a minimum sentence of 24 years in December 2021.

The killing has only now been made public after Farrell was last month convicted of a string of sexual attacks against two other women, leading a judge to lift reporting restrictions.

The attacks included four counts of rape and one vile assault that saw Farrell shove dog excrement into his victim’s mouth.

Two days after killing Ms Mistry, Farrell calmly walked into Euston Street Police station in the city and reported her missing.

CCTV from inside the police station shows Farrell speaking to officers on an internal phone which was set up due to Covid restrictions.

He claimed he had helped Ms Mistry after she had fallen over in the bath but had been unable to get hold of her since.

Police forced their way inside her home and found Ms Mistry’s badly beaten body on the bed.

Farrell was arrested but denied murder, telling officers he had helped her by giving her Ibuprofen following her bath fall.

He was nailed by CCTV which showed his car parked close to her home. Footage also showed him running towards her property shortly before the murder.

Witnesses later told police they heard Ms Mistry telling him to leave her home. Farrell was also seen putting his hand on the door and forcing his way inside.

Farrell was then seen leaving the property at 3.09am on March 23 where he drove off in his car.

He was then seen at around 4.30pm back at the property and looking through the letterbox.

Farrell was found guilty of murder and in December 2021 he was jailed for life and ordered to serve 24 years in prison.

During their investigation detectives discovered he had also raped and sexually assaulted two other women.

One of his victims was raped multiple times and suffered a black eye when Farrell smashed her in the face with wooden bed slats.

The second woman was also raped by Farrell who, on one occasion, shoved dog faeces into her mouth.

Farrell was charged with the rape and assault offences in September 2021.

A court order was placed on reporting Farrell’s murder conviction, but a judge lifted these restrictions following his trial for multiple sex attacks.

Last month he was found guilty of four counts of rape and six of actual bodily harm between 2009 and 2015.

Detective Chief Inspector Nicole Main, of Leicestershire Police, said: ‘Smita was just 32-years-old when Farrell brutally murdered her in her own home before trying to cover his tracks by making a false report to police.

Farrell was seen leaving the property at 3.09am on March 23 where he drove off in his car.

‘He knew what he had done to Smita but his only concern was to protect himself.’

In a tribute, Ms Mistry’s father said: ‘Smita’s death has left me distraught and empty.

‘I cannot bear to think what she must have gone through and the pain she must have suffered.

‘She was brutally assaulted and murdered. She must have died in horrific circumstances and this is too painful to think about.

‘I cannot contemplate why anyone could be so cruel as to take someone’s life.’

Farrell will be sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on May 22.
