Meghan Markle's first UK speech since stepping back from Royal Family duties went down a storm on social media.

The wife of Prince Harry was widely lauded on Twitter after addressing young leaders from around the world in what was also the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's first public appearance in the country since the Queen's Platinum Jubilee in June.

Meghan's speech was delivered at the opening ceremony of the One Young World summit at Manchester's Bridgewater Hall, where she described the young leaders from 190 different countries "as being the ones driving the positive and necessary change across the globe now".

Afterwards, one impressed Twitter poster simply exclaimed: "Meghan is a Boss Diva!"

Another added: "Brilliant, heartfelt speech by Meghan, Duchess of Sussex as always; her eloquence is phenomenal! Then there's her voice; makes you lean in and listen, makes you feel warm! Stunning woman."

A third enthused: "Inspiring speech, well done! Meghan is intelligent, beautiful and an inspiration to young people all around the world. Excellent."

One more tweeted: "No Royal is touching Meghan's shoe laces in public speech. This woman is intelligent, eloquent and inspiring. You will never tire when listening to her."

The Duchess was first asked to be a counsellor for One Young World in 2014 – three years before meeting her future husband Harry.

Remembering that honour, she added: "And there I was, the girl from Suits. I was surrounded by world leaders, humanitarians, prime ministers and activists that I had such a deep and long-standing respect and admiration for.

"And I was allowed in, to pull up a seat at the table. I was so overwhelmed by this experience, I think I even saved my little paper place-marker with my name on it.

"Just proof – proof that I was there, proof that I belonged, because the truth was, I wasn't sure that I belonged. I was so nervous, I doubted myself and I wondered, wondered if I was good enough to be there?"

But she went on to state that One Young World "saw in me, just as I see in you, the present and the future".

Meghan also told an estimated 2,000 delegates: "I want to make that point because often times I speak to young adults about the years ahead – about what you will do, about what you will have to adopt to fix from previous generations and also what legacy you will leave.

"Too often in that, we neglect the point – you are doing it now. You, here, in this present moment, this is where it is all beginning."
