Beautiful tourist spot branded ‘stinking dump’ as Brit vows never to return

Tourists from all over the world over have expressed their dismay and branded an iconic Italian landmark a “tourist trap”, adding that the city it sits in is a “stinking dump”.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa is a symbol of Italian culture and design, but for many visitors it left much to be desired.

The 57-metre freestanding bell tower, built in 1372, attracts five million tourists a year, but not all of them leave Pisa smiling.

One Tripadvisor user, Alanna, from Canvey Island in Essex, said she understood the clamour to see the city’s tourist attractions but claimed the rest of Pisa was a “stinking dump”.

Brutally slamming the country as a whole, she said: “As with most of Italy. [Pisa is a] Tourist trap designed to make money out of honest hardworking tourists. I would not return.”

Her bristling sentiment was shared by fellow TripAdvisor users from around the world, who slammed the city of Pisa as well as the tourist hotspots within it.

One Irish reviewer, Mary, said: “Very poor signage and instructions around. Staff checking tickets were very rude & abrupt.”

Another reviewer, mjeed321, from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia said: “Basically it’s tourist trap, not worth it and they will surprise you with all kind of scam along your way back to Florence or Rome.

“Definitely won’t recommend it to anyone.”

Mandi, from Georgia, USA, was equally scathing and even said she’d prefer a family argument to going back to the whitewash tower.

She said: “What can we say! This place is really disappointing. There was all the hype and we were really excited but seeing this.

“After getting here, we get the feeling that our time might be better spent well with our mothers in law, fighting!”

A Dutch tourist branded the area the “ugliest place” in terms of how tourists were treated.

The reviewer from Zeist said of Pisa: “Terrible overrated mass tourist trap. Possibly the ugliest place in terms of hospitality and tourist harrasment. Watch who you talk to and keep your hand on your pocket.

“Plan only a drive by of an hour to quickly view te tower and beautiful cathedral.”
