‘Absolutely mortal’ bloke with axe told police ‘I’m a little bit psycho’

A very strange bloke told police that he was “a little bit psycho” after wandering around a Metro station with an axe.

The bizarre sighting was spotted at Tyne Dock station in Newcastle.

James Graham had the axe behind his back during an early morning stroll last month.

He was hauled before Newcastle Crown Court this week, where it was told how the 26-year-old was threatened with a taser before throwing the axe down onto the tracks.

Upon arrest, Chronicle Live reports, he said: “I'm a little bit psycho. I'm only after one person”.

And on his way to a police station, the bloke with 59 previous offences on his record said: “I will bang him with the axe, he threatened my mother.”

It was not detailed who he was referring to, but he will now spend 14 months behind bars after pleading guilt to possession of an offensive weapon.

It is his third third weapons-related conviction, having previously been jailed in 2015 and 2022.

Neil Pallister, prosecuting, said: ”The officer noticed that, on one of the platforms, the defendant was holding an axe behind his back and was speaking to members of public while holding the axe behind his back.

“Other officers were tasked to go to the location.

“The officer approached the defendant with his taser out – as he approached, he shouted 'get on the floor' with the taser pointed at the defendant.

“The defendant told officers he was a 'little bit psycho' and 'I'm only after one person'.”

Fiona Lamb, defending, told the court that Graham had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity and was carrying the weapon after being threatened himself.

She added: “He can't recall making those comments to the police – he was, in his own words, absolutely mortal.

“Someone had come to his house with a machete and he had taken the axe in order to protect himself.”
