Nicola Sturgeon is arrested by Scottish police as part of probe in SNP finances
Nicola Sturgeon has been arrested as part of the investigation into the SNP’s finances.
The Former First Minister is the third arrest made by the force, following her husband Peter Murrell and party treasurer Colin Beattie.
Speculation about Nicola Sturgeon’s arrest had been ramped up following the arrest of party treasurer Colin Beattie on Tuesday, as only she, Mr Beattie and Mr Murrell had signed off the SNP’s accounts for 2021/2022.
Speaking outside her Glasgow home following the arrest of her husband, former Party Chief Executive Peter Murrell, Ms Sturgeon promised to cooperate with the police inquiry if required.
The arrest of Colin Beattie in April overshadowed Humza Yousaf’s attempted relaunch of his leadership, amid a police investigation into concerns about how £600,000 raised by SNP supporters specifically to fund a second independence campaign had been spent.
Peter Murrell was arrested in April and held by police for 11 hours.
Both he and Mr Beattie were subsequently released without charge pending further investigation.
