A father and son were onboard the tourist submarine that vanished on a voyage to explore the wreck on the Titanic.

British residents Shahzada Dawood, 48, and his son Sulaiman Dawood, 19, were on the OceanGate Explorations vessel 'Titan' when it vanished in the Atlantic on Sunday (June 18).

British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding was previously identified as another of the five missing passengers.

The family of Shahzada Dawood said: "Our son Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman, had embarked on a journey to visit the remnants of the Titanic in the Atlantic Ocean.

"As of now, contact has been lost with their submersible craft and there is limited information available."

Shahzada is one of Pakistan's richest men and has strong ties with the UK, serving on the board for Prince's Trust charity.

The family is believed to live in a Surrey mansion.

Shahzada's father Hussain, 79, is the Chairman of the Dawood Hercules Corporation. He was born in Mumbai and attended the University of Sheffield, according to MailOnline.

The expedition is believed to have launched from Newfoundland, Canada, on Saturday (June 17). The trip costs $250,000 (£195,000) per person.
