Sicko dubbed ‘The Facebook Rapist’ fakes own death to escape from prison
A man serving life for murder and a series of rapes faked his own death by setting himself ablaze in his prison cell.
South African police believed Thabo Bester died following the incident at the privately run prison in Bloemfontein, run by the London-based global security firm G4S.
In May, Bester, dubbed the “Facebook rapist” after luring his victims through the platform, was confirmed dead by the department of correctional services.

However, authorities have now confirmed DNA tests revealed the charred remains found in the serial rapist’s cell actually belonged to someone else.
Last week, the department of correctional services confirmed that Bester had escaped from jail.
Police later added that an autopsy revealed the person found dead in Bester’s cell had died from blunt force trauma to the head before being set ablaze.
The body also showed no signs of smoke inhalation.
A murder investigation has been opened.

"No stone will be left unturned in getting to the bottom of Thabo Bester's escape, and there will be serious consequences for any party involved," the department said.
According to The Times, it's now believed the criminal has shacked up with his girlfriend in one of South Africa’s most expensive suburbs since faking his death.
The publication added that Bester was photographed in a supermarket near the £5million mansion he rented in Sandton, Johannesburg.
The mansion is understood to be located one street away from President Ramaphosa’s home.
