Rishi Sunak makes calls to Scots and Welsh leaders in attempt to strengthen the union

- Liz Truss did not telephone either leader during her brief time as Prime Minister
Rishi Sunak has called the first ministers of Scotland and Wales as he seeks to strengthen the Union and reset relations.
Afterwards, the PM tweeted: ‘I emphasised our duty to work closely together to respond to the shared challenges we face, so that collectively we can deliver for the people of the United Kingdom.’
Nicola Sturgeon said the call had been ‘constructive’, while her Welsh counterpart Mark Drakeford said he discussed the ‘importance of working together as four nations to address the urgent challenges we face’.

Liz Truss did not telephone either leader during her brief time as Prime Minister.
Meanwhile, Northern Ireland Secretary Chris Heaton-Harris was yesterday in talks with Stormont leaders in Belfast as a new election deadline looms tomorrow.
He has warned that he will call a new poll if the date passes without a devolved executive being formed.
