Putin ‘not in control of nukes’ as they could launch ‘without him knowing’
Vladimir Putin “controls nothing” after the Wagner Group’s attempted coup yesterday and “even nuclear weapons might be used without his knowledge”, according to the wife of an assassinated Russian spy.
Marina Litvinenko, the wife of defector Alexander Litvinenko, told the BBC that western leaders need to “take Putin out” in order to “save Russia from collapsing” and threatening global peace.
The 61-year-old told Laura Kuenssberg that Yevgeny Prigozhin’s mutiny, that threatened to topple Putin’s regime, was evidence of the weakness of the Russian leader.
Yesterday the Wagner Group attempted to depose the Russian military leadership and were only stood down after a last minute deal was reached, brokered by the Belarusian president, a close ally of Putin.
