A frenzied stabbing rampage in a shopping centre has left at least five people injured.
According to Singaporean news outlet The Straits Times, several shoppers were knifed on Wednesday afternoon at around 4pm local time at the Pasir Ris West Plaza.
Much of the violent bloodshed was witnessed unfolding outside a shop named Royal Regent, which flogs all sorts from phone products to sandals and bags. A resident told The Strait Times how four of the five victims were sitting outside Royal Regent surrounded by armed police officers, with another victim seen on the ground.
“They were covered in blood, and there were over 30 police officers at the scene, including several armed with rifles,” said the resident, who declined to be named.
Another resident said the owner of Royal Regent was among the victims. “I saw five people wheeled into ambulances. They were very heavily bandaged, and the injuries look very bad,” the taxi driver identified as Mr Lee said.
A police cordon has been set up around the shop, where blood-soaked items have been strewn across the floor.
