Met Office issues 6-hour ‘seek shelter’ from lightning strikes warning
The Met Office has issued critical new advice for avoiding thunder and lightning disasters, as Brits brace for a six-hour deluge following a yellow weather warning.
People have been advised to “seek shelter” as Glasgow, western Scotland and Northern Ireland are set to be hit by a thunder storm between 17:00 and 23:00.
Flooding of homes and businesses is “likely” and there is a probability of “some damage to a few buildings and structures from lightning strikes”.
The Met Office has advised: “When you hear thunder you are already within range of where the next ground flash may occur, lightning can strike as far as 10 miles away from the centre of a storm.”
