Jon Moxley stuns CM Punk to become undisputed AEW World Champion
Last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite came live from the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio and saw one of the biggest fights in AEW history, with the All Out pay-per-view less than two weeks away.
The headliner was the highly-anticipated Championship title match, which saw the newly returned AEW World Champion CM Punk take on Interim AEW World Champion Jon Moxley.
Meanwhile, father and son duo Billy Gunn and Colten Gunn went head-to-head in an explosive match after Colten’s surprising betrayal last week.
The AEW World Trios Championship also continued as Death Triangle went up against United Empire, with the winner progressing to the semi-finals.
Here’s the results from last night’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
Billy Gunn vs. Colten Gunn
After a shocking betrayal from his son last week, this week saw Billy Gunn go head-to-head with his own offspring, Colten Gunn.
Billy was looking to teach his son a lesson but it didn’t work out for the hesitant father.
With Austin attacking the Acclaimed on the outside, Billy was distracted enough for Colten to land a low blow and take victory via pinfall.
Winner: Colten Gunn
Dax Harwood vs. Jay Lethal
Dax Harwood and Jay Lethal battled it out in a singles competition ahead of All Out.
The men went back-and-forth to start with Dax gaining control early on but Lethal stole the advantage during the break.
He went on to win the match with a rollup and handful of tights.
Winner: Jay Lethal
Britt Baker vs. KiLynn King
KiLynn King returned to her hometown last night in hopes of defeating her rival Britt Baker.
Baker started out strong with a sling blade but King came back and the women had an impressive back-and-forth match.
But King was unable to claim victory as Baker won by submission applying the Lockjaw.
Winner: Britt Baker
CM Punk vs. Jon Moxley
The historic AEW World Title Unification Match between CM Punk and Jon Moxley wasn’t supposed to happen until All Out, but after tensions flared on last week’s episode both men went head to head for the title of Undisputed AEW World Champion.
But the highly-anticipated match was over within minutes.
As Punk threw a roundhouse kick early, he immediately went down as he screamed in agony, appearing to have re-injured his foot.
Moxley claimed the Undisputed World Championship title as laid in elbows and finished with consecutive Death Riders.
Winner: Jon Moxley
Death Triangle vs. United Empire
It was an action-packed quarter-final of the AEW World Trios Championship as Death Triangle’s All-Atlantic Champion PAC, Rey Fenix and Penta Oscuro took on United Empires WIGP United States Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay and NJPW Strong Openweight Tag Team Champions Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher.
Will Ospreay and Rey Fenix kicked the match off with an agile start and Death Triangle had the early advantage but United Empire fought back hard in a thrilling match.
It was United Empire that came out victorious, winning by pinfall with Ospreay hitting an assisted Oscutter on Rey Fenix for the win.
Winner: United Empire
