A woman who died after a house exploded in Birmingham yesterday (June 26) has been named as Doreen Rees-Bibb, 79.

In emotional tributes paid to Doreen, she was described as "the life and soul of the party" with a "heart of pure gold."

The same unidentified family member told The Sun that Doreen was "full of warmth and love."

It's thought Doreen's partner was left fighting for his life following the gas explosion at 8.30pm on Dulwich Road, Birmingham, which 25 fire crews responded to.

David Murphy, who owns the house, was pulled from the wreckage by hero neighbours in Birmingham and remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition, it's understood.

Neighbour Lami Charlery was on his computer in his living room around that time but briefly nipped to the toilet.

The fatal blast then shook the entire street and brought his living room ceiling crashing down onto where he had just been sitting, reports BirminghamLive.

The dad-of-two, 40, said: "The ceiling came down and the glass came in. If I was in any other room I wouldn’t be alive. I’m lucky to be alive.

"There was a big explosion. I was holding onto the door and fell back. I didn’t know what was going on. The ceiling had come through.

"I ran outside and heard someone out the back shouting 'help'. There were about 10 to 15 of us. When we went to help him, we could hear it [the fire burning]."

Lami said people helped to get Mr Murphy out of the exploded house when emergency services arrived

West Midlands Fire Service previously said it could take “days” before they discover the precise cause of the deadly gas blast.

A spokesperson said: “It could be days before the precise cause of a fatal gas explosion in Kingstanding is known.

“Investigations continue, at what is a very challenging scene.”
