"I guess the adrenaline is pumping, so you don't feel it right away.
"I actually didn't believe him, so I walked to the bathroom and looked at myself in the mirror."
It was there that her punctured face was revealed.
Emergency services were called and the young woman was taken to hospital.
Renée said: "I was scared.
"It felt like pressure was there constantly, like severe pressure, as if something heavy was on my face.
"My concern was my eye, I couldn't care less about a scar.
"If you take care of scars properly they will go away… my concern was, 'am I going to be able to see'."
Renée was immediately seen by medical professionals and was given a CT scan.
Subsequently, a plastic surgeon was called in to remove the key and stitch up the wound.
Images from the scan showed the key was buried within her nasal cavities after piercing a very precise spot on her face.
The doctors were stunned by the fluke accident.
Renée said: "The doctors there were amazed.
"There were doctors coming from different departments to see me because they couldn't believe it.
"I had one of them come and ask to take pictures so he could show his students.
"He was an emergency room doctor and he wanted to show them that anything can happen."
Luckily, Renée was left without a scar and has fully recovered without complications.
She posted about her terror on TikTok, which has racked up more than 10 million views.
Renée said: "Looking at it now, I'd think there's no way that could even happen.
"It is just dumb luck I guess because nothing bad actually happened.
"Like what are the odds of that happening.
"It was a near miss… if it had hit somewhere else, it could have done quite a bit of damage.
