Denver today’s weather: Subzero low wind chills, cold front on the way

“One of the worst cold snaps in 30 years,” will arrive in Colorado later this week, according to the National Weather Service, which is calling for subzero wind chills starting Wednesday night.

The weather service has issued a Wind Chill Watch from 8 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Friday and is warning people to cover exposed skin when outside to reduce the risk of frostbite or hypothermia.

Wind chills, which is the temperature it feels due to the mixture of cold temperatures and winds, could reach as low as -50 both Wednesday and Thursday evenings, according to the weather service.

In anticipation of the cold front, the Denver Coliseum will be opened as a 24-hour warming shelter on Wednesday.
