Denver police arrest kidnapping suspect after standoff

Denver police arrested a kidnapping suspect Sunday after a standoff in northeast Denver.

The incident happened in the 5500 block of North Troy Street around 8:45 a.m. A man armed with a handgun assaulted a family member and took the family member’s 3-year-old child, police said.

The man, who was not identified, then stayed inside a home on Troy Street, prompting police to call out tactical and negotiation teams and close nearby streets.

The man eventually fled the home and was “quickly apprehended,” according to police. He was arrested shortly before 10 a.m.

The child was found safe and unharmed inside the home.
