Charles declares war on ‘pain in the bum’ slugs devouring his beloved plants

King Charles has a burning hatred for slugs because they are tucking into his beloved plants, his pal Alan Titchmarsh said.

Alan made the revelation as he joined forced with the monarch to wage war on a decision by the Royal Horticultural Society to regard the menaces as “our friends” rather than “pests”.

The celeb gardener, 74, said slugs are a “pain in the bum’’ and the King agrees with him. Alan, who is a vice president of the RHS, said: “The King I see quite regularly – we talk, moan about slugs together.

“Don’t try and tell people that slugs are our friends and not a grand old inconvenience.”

The RHS reckons slugs are misunderstood creatures.

Dr Andy Salisbury, RHS head of plant health, left, said: “Avoiding the term pest prevents all species in a group as being thought of as harmful and enables a conversation like this one.”

Buckingham Palace did not want to comment last night when approached.

It comes after it was revealed Charles' grandson Prince George shares a talent with the monarch. It was also shared by Prince Philip, with Kate Middleton thought to be keen too.

The nine-year-old has a passion for art and the work he has produced to date is 'genuinely impressive', according to royal expert and former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond.

She told OK! : "[Prince] George seems to to be a chip off the old block.

"Prince Philip and King Charles were both incredibly talented, and Kate is very knowledgeable and interested in art… and judging by George's genuinely impressive painting, he is also pretty handy with the paint brush."
