British man on paddleboard stuck and killed by lightning as girlfriend films on

A Brit has lost his life after being struck by lightning while out paddle-boarding.
The unnamed man is understood to have been being filmed by his girlfriend when tragedy stuck in Rhodes, Greece.
An investigation into the death has now been launched by authorities.

Initial reports of lightning striking close to the man at around 1.30pm on Monday, May 29, were made by Greek newspaper Rodiaki.
He had been in the sea in Agia Agathi a little way from the beach when the incident, which caused him to fall into the water, took place local media reports.
Confirmation that the man was a British national and was 26 years old was made by the port authority of Rhodes to PA.
However, the authority refused to go into further details on the matter given it’s an active investigation.
A spokesperson said: “This is an active case so we cannot give more details at the moment.”

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: “We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Rhodes and are in contact with local authorities.”
The victim is understood to have been pulled from the water by a passer-by – a Brazilian footballer who plays for a local team.
Despite pulling him back to shore where he was picked up by medics the man was pronounced dead later on at a local hospital.
