Brit tourists weather warning as 44C heatwave to hit Spain, France and Italy

British holidaymakers have been warned of an impending North African plume which is set to hit the likes of Spain, France and Italy in days. Spain, according to BBC weather, is set to sizzle in scorching 44C highs, with Seville in southern Spain set to scoop the highest thermometer readings.

It comes as the UK is expected to see its mercury accelerate from this weekend, with highs of 34C being potentially achieved in London and central England from next week.

But those choosing a summer holiday in Europe will be subjected to a near-unbearable 44C heatwave which is set to ravage parts of Spain from as early as this Wednesday (June 21).

Jim Dale, senior meteorologist at British Weather Services, spoke to Express.co.uk about the larger European picture. He said: “It does warm up for sure and there remains a North African heat plume into Spain, France and Italy. It’s just a matter of extent.”

Weather maps show southern Spain seeing 34C highs from this week, with southern France hitting 30C by this Friday. In Italy, Taranto, a coastal city in Apulia, is set to wilt in 37C temperatures by this Thursday.

Will this impact the UK’s weather?

All these countries bubbling away under blistering heat will have an impact on the UK, with the North African plume pushing north to hit Britain from this Saturday. But it will not reach such peaks.

It will, however, catapult the South East’s mercury into the early 30Cs, which could spark the start of a ravaging heatwave for Britain next week.

Mr Dale added: “We are on the fringes of matters by the weekend, that is in South East England.”

In Italy, temperatures are due to settle down by the middle of next week, with southern parts of the country set to see late 20C by the start of July.

But Spain is the biggest casualty when it comes to the surging heat, with 43C being forecast for large swathes of the country by Tuesday, June 27.

The heatwave’s grip will slowly be released by July 2 – the first weekend of the new month – when temperatures will drop by around 13C. Despite this, holidaymakers and residents will not feel much relief as 30C highs will still continue to spread across southern Spain.

France will also be hit by the soaring mercury, with much of the country seeing 31C highs by next Monday.
