Bloke off to Italy wakes up in UK prison after ‘few vodkas’ in departure lounge
A bloke expecting to go on a sunny holiday to Italy was left baffled after waking up inside a British prison cell.
David Ballantyne had apparently had a “few vodkas” while waiting for his flight to Sorrento from Birmingham Airport.
And during the wait, he became drunk and was “aggressive” to staff – which lead to him missing his flight.

He did, however, find transport, but it was a police van after calling one officer a “t**t” while threatening to “kick the f**k out of you” to another, Birmingham Live reports.
The 55-year-old has now been fined £200 and ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge and £50 in costs for the April 21 incident, but claims it happened because medication he was on did not mix well with the alcohol he was drinking.
He admitted to be drunk and disorderly in a public place during Wednesday's (May 10) hearing at Birmingham Magistrates' Court.
Judge David Wain said: "He continued to swear and be abusive and so he was taken out of Gate 47 and put in a police van, which ended his attempt to go on holiday.
“Airports are particularly sensitive places to be.
“They are full of families trying to go on holiday.
“Some maybe anxious about flying and the last thing they need to be faced with is someone being drunk and abusive towards others. You also distracted police from doing what they should be doing.”
Ballantyne, who represented himself in court said: “I put my hands up to it.

“When I went in the lounge I had a couple of bacon sandwiches and a few vodkas.
“I shouldn't have had medication with alcohol. I wound up in a cell with no recollection of anything.
“I'm really sorry I've not been in trouble for years. I regret what happened and I apologised to everyone.”
He did eventually go to Sorrento, as he was able to fly the next day.
