Arvada drug deal leads to fatal stabbing
An Arvada man was arrested Monday night on suspicion of first-degree murder after reportedly stabbing a man who tried to steal marijuana from him, the Arvada Police Department announced Tuesday.
According to a news release from the Arvada Police Department, 19-year-old Bennett Polhamus-Cousland was arrested Monday in connection with the fatal stabbing of 20-year-old Jackson Fitts.
According to the release, at about 10:06 p.m. Monday night, Arvada police officers responded to a report of a person being stabbed near 64th Avenue and Quail Street.
Police identified the victim as Fitts, who was transported to the hospital where he was declared dead.
Earlier that night, Fitts met Polhamus-Cousland to buy marijuana and a fight broke out, according to the release.
Police believe Fitts attempted to steal the marijuana from Polhamus-Cousland, who then stabbed Fitts and caused minor injuries.
Polhamus-Cousland then left the area and returned to the incident location with another knife, found Fitts and confronted him about the alleged theft, according to the release.
Another altercation occurred and Polhamus-Cousland allegedly fatally stabbed Fitts, according to the police report.
