Angry England fans alter World Cup referee’s Wikipedia page after France defeat
Enraged England fans have hilariously tweaked the Wikipedia page of Walton Sampaio – the referee who took charge of the Three Lions' World Cup quarter-final defeat to France on Saturday evening.
Supporters of Gareth Southgate's men were particularly angered by some of the Brazilian's first half decision-making in the crunch game against the reigning world champions.
Although he went on to award England two penalties in the second half, Sampaio hardly endeared himself to the nation after failing to award England a free kick for a foul on Bukayo Saka just before France took the lead.

Despite a lengthy VAR review, the goal stood.
Later in the first 45 minutes, meanwhile, England were denied what looked like a stonewall penalty, when Harry Kane was clumsily bundled over in the French penalty area by Dayot Upamecano.
Again, however, VAR ruled in favour of Didier Deschamps' Les Bleus.
As the halftime whistle blew, several England players still smarting surrounded Sampaio, whilst back home fans quickly took to social media (and Wikipedia) to vent their own frustrations too.
The man in the middle's page was altered to read: "Wilton Pereira Sampaio is a French fan and a Brazilian football referee.
"He is currently under investigation for falsely not awarding a penalty to England after Harry Kane was assaulted."

Comments on Twitter weren't as polite, however, with one England fan declaring: "England didn't play brilliant, but they played better than France. I can accept us losing, if the lads gave everything, which they did. However, what I won't accept is being cheated out of the win by poor bias officials (ref.)"
Another wrote: "Harry Kane you did us proud. It was a great game to watch. The ref should be disciplined for ignoring all those fouls against England. Does the world hate England so much? France may have still won, dirty play should be outlawed. I thought the saying was cheats don’t prosper."
A third added: "That was a game of football spoilt simply by the ref not doing his job. He should have carded the first cynical blatant foul and then red carded. The French team set out to pressurize and cheat, the ref allowed them to do so."
And a fourth said: "I have no grudges against Harry Kane for missing that 2nd penalty. It happens to the best of them. We were cheated out of that game by a poor bias ref and a bias cheat, who was running the VAR."
