Cabinet Minister pulls out of GB News grilling at the hands of Peter Andre

Peter Andre reveals he’s hosting GB News breakfast show

Work and Pensions Secretary Mel Stride ducked out of a GB News interview this morning, as part of the usual ministerial morning media round.

While Mr Stride’s series of interviews would have typically only been headline-worthy had he made a gaff, this morning’s GB News appearance was keenly anticipated by some in Westminster.

That was largely because of who was set to grill the Work and Pensions secretary: guest presenter Peter Andre.

The Mysterious Girl singer and I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Star has joined the free speech-loving TV channel as a guest presenter today and Thursday.

Katie Price’s ex-husband is co-hosting the early morning breakfast show for two days, taking to the small screen between 6 and 9.30 am both days.

The time slot coincides with the usual flagship morning media round by a top member of the Government, who flits between TV studios to answer questions from a number of different broadcasters on any topic the presenters wish to ask about.

Mel Stride was listed to appear on the channel at 6.45 am, however, he never appeared on viewers’ screens.

The Express was told it’s “fairly normal” for ministers to miss a few morning TV interviews during the media round.

A GB News source said Mr Stride pulled out of the interview last night, saying he couldn’t fit it in.

A Downing Street source said the move was not Peter Andre-related.

Labour’s Shadow Trade Secretary Nick Thomas-Symonds did appear on the channel to be interviewed by Mr Andre, saying it was “very good to join you this morning”.

Mr Andre asked Mr Thomas-Symonds whether the Cabinet Office should hand Boris Johnson’s Whatsapp messages over to the official Covid Inquiry.

Mr Andre’s announcement that he was presenting the two GB News shows divided fans, with some cheering the social media post and saying: “GB News is the way forward.”

Another added: “Ooh exciting – GB News is the best.”

A Twitter fan replied: “I think we need more genuinely decent presenters on TV so I think it’s great news!”

However, some fans voiced disapproval of his hosting, given the channel’s political bent.

One follower replied: “Interesting and disappointing way to bin off your own career and any shred of integrity – thought you were better than this…”

An EU-loving Twitter user who dislikes the often pro-Brexit slant of the channel said: “Peter please don’t do this. Whatever they are paying, it’s not enough. Your reputation will be in tatters.”
