British Racing Team Promotes Bitcoin and El Salvador in a Porsche 911 GT3
In a surprising fusion of motorsport, cryptocurrency, and national representation, British racing team Bitcoin Racing is championing Bitcoin and El Salvador in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain.
The Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain is a renowned one-make motor racing championship that celebrates the prowess of the Porsche 911 GT3. As the UK’s fastest and most triumphant single marque GT championship, it has enjoyed a rich history of 19 seasons, garnering immense popularity with over 370,000 spectators across the season. The Championship, primarily held across the UK, has also ventured into Germany, France, and Belgium for single races. Renowned drivers like Richard Westbrook, a two-time Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup winner, and Damien Faulkner, a Supercup race winner, have graced this championship, adding to its prestige.
In a major announcement on April 19, 2023, Bitcoin Racing declared its intention to drive Bitcoin adoption by participating in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB. They revealed that their Salvadoran driver and Netflix star, Sebastian Melrose, would be a key figure in this mission, leveraging his popularity from the hit Netflix show “Too Hot to Handle.” The team aims to reach a TV audience of 2.2 million and over 400,000 live spectators per season, spreading the message of Bitcoin adoption to a vast audience outside the traditional cryptocurrency sector.
But the Bitcoin Racing team’s ambition doesn’t stop at Bitcoin. They have also undertaken to promote El Salvador, proudly displaying the country’s flag and promoting its image on the international stage. This initiative is in collaboration with Richardson Racing, who will handle the technical and mechanical aspects of the car.
On April 20, 2023, Richardson Racing confirmed the expansion of its program in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB with the signing of Bitcoin racing driver Sebastian Melrose. The 25-year-old driver, holding dual Scottish/El Salvadorian nationality, brings a rich background in motorsport, having competed in various championships, including the German VLN series and Ginetta GT4 Supercup.
Excited about the opportunity, Melrose noted his motivation and eagerness to enter the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season. He commended the team’s professionalism and expressed anticipation for the races ahead. Andrew Richardson, team manager, reciprocated the enthusiasm, acknowledging Melrose’s potential to deliver good results.
The 2023 Carrera Cup GB season kicked off with the first two rounds at Donington Park on April 22-23. The action continues with Rounds 3 and 4 at Brands Hatch scheduled for May 6-7.
