Simon Cowell set to sell his £15M six-million Wimbledon mansion

So, Simon Cowell, how much talent do you have as a property mogul? Music tsar, 62, set to sell his £15M six-million Wimbledon mansion just four years after purchasing the ‘perfect family home’ – and its bank-busting renovation – without ever living in it

  • Cowell puts the property on the market for £2m more than 2018 purchase price
  • He is said to have stripped the house, removing walls, ceilings and floors
  • Cowell will marry Lauren Silverman at Cliveden House in Berkshire next month

He purchased the property with an eye on creating the perfect family home, and carried out a full refurb trying to achieve that dream.

But four years after he was handed the keys, Simon Cowell is selling his second home without ever having lived in it.

The music mogul has put the six-bedroom mansion on the market for £17million.

That is £2million more than the 2018 purchase price – but, with the extensive improvements he has made, it would appear to have left Cowell without much of a return on his outlay.

The first pictures from inside the property in Wimbledon, south-west London, show the refurbishment appears to have been completed to a high specification, and finished with a modern, neutral decor throughout.

Cowell, 62, is said to have stripped the 1900s period house back to brick, removing walls, ceilings and floors.

New suites are thought to have been installed in the six bathrooms, while there is a new kitchen on the ground floor of the three-storey home alongside five reception rooms.

Other features include a gym, a large playroom and a double garage. Plans have been approved for a swimming pool in the half-acre landscaped grounds.

It was reported that Cowell was selling the property in November, with a source claiming ‘things just didn’t work out’.

The former X Factor judge and his fiancee Lauren Silverman, 44, have decided instead to remain in their home in Holland Park, west London, with eight-year-old son Eric and her son Adam, 16.

They made ‘trial’ runs to Eric’s school from Wimbledon, a 14-mile round trip which sometimes took more than two hours.

The source told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Simon and Lauren fancied a change. They wanted to get out of central London and go somewhere a little more leafy.

‘They wanted clean air and to make it their long-term family home. They spent a lot of time and money on it, but things just didn’t work out, so they have decided to put it on the market and stay put.’

Cowell will reportedly marry Miss Silverman at Cliveden House in Berkshire next month. He is said to be planning the wedding himself, ditching ‘ghastly wedding planners’. He told The Sun: ‘I am planning it all, otherwise I know what will happen – there will be 600 people and it’ll get out of control, like my 50th birthday party.’
