Sen. Rand Paul pledged to force votes on calling witnesses Republicans want to hear from if the party decides to support the Democrats’ requests for impeachment witnesses.
“My colleagues can’t have it both ways. Calling for some, while blocking others. If we are going to give a platform to witnesses the Dems demand, I look forward to forcing votes to call Hunter Biden and many more!” the Kentucky Republican tweeted Monday night.
For months, Paul and other high-profile Republicans have publicly requested that lawmakers hear from Hunter about his time on the board of Ukrainian energy company Burisma while his father served as vice president.
GOP lawmakers, including Paul, have argued that the younger Biden earned illicit profits from the corrupt company thanks to his father’s position.
Democrats have accused President Trump of committing a quid pro quo by requesting that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky launch an investigation into the Bidens while withholding $400 million in aid to the country.
Republicans, meanwhile, argue that allegations against the Bidens were damning enough to merit the president asking for a probe, regardless of Joe’s candidacy for president.
Paul has also publicly said that he would like to hear testimony from the whistleblower who first reported a July 25 phone call between Trump and Zelensky.
Both Joe and Hunter Biden have denied any wrongdoing.
Hunter pledged not to serve on any foreign boards if his father were elected president in 2020.
