Dramatic footage, which may be distressing for some people to watch, shows the moment police approached a man on the Knoll in Runcorn, Liverpool ECHO reports.
Police were called to the scene at around 1.20pm on Wednesday after reports from people in the area who were concerned for the man's safety.

The man raises his arms with an item in his hand, pointed in the direction of the police.
A deafening gunshot then rings out.
