Kyiv woman stands for three days straight as rescuers searched rubble for family

A heartbreaking photograph showing a Ukrainian woman waiting at the remains of a destroyed building in Kyiv has been shared on social media.

The woman, who is understood to be called Lyudmyla, stood in the same spot for three days in a row while emergy service officers worked at the scene.

On the third day, rescuers offered her a chair, while she continues to wait for her relative's bodies to be pulled from the rubble of the building in Borodyanka, Kyiv.

The distressing image shows Lyudmyla sitting and waiting at the site while more than two dozen emergency work to remove the debris and secure the area.

The image was shared on Twitter by the KyivPost on April 7, and has since been shared and liked nearly 2,000 times.

The tweet read: “This woman, Lyudmyla, is waiting for her relatives to be taken out from under the rubble of the destroyed building in Borodyanka, #Kyiv region.

“It’s been her 3d day standing in the same place and waiting, so the rescuers brought a chair for her.”

Hundreds of people shared and responded to the harrowing story.

One person said: “All the stories are heartbreaking god loves her."

A second added: “Breaks my heart so bad for her, I am so sorry she and others like her have to go through this”

“So much heartbreak. My heart aches for her and all those suffering.” a third commented.

Another user said: “It's horrible to say that the woman is ‘fortunate’ to be able to wait for her relatives to be taken out while thousands of murdered civilians in Mariupol and southern Ukraine are being burned and vanished.

“This is pure genocide. Simply appalling.”
