The US has suggested the Wuhan lab leak theory has credibility after a multi-agency investigation into the root of the deadly pandemic proved inconclusive. The US President has now stated that China has obstructed efforts to investigate the origins of the coronavirus “from the beginning”. He added: “Responsible nations do not shirk these kinds of responsibilities to the rest of the world.”
Four US intelligence agencies have concluded, albeit with “low confidence”, that the virus was initially transmitted from an animal to a human.
However, a fifth US intelligence agency believes with “moderate confidence” that the first human to be infected was linked to a lab.
The analysts involved do not believe the virus was developed as a bioweapon.
The Chinese Embassy in Washington was quick to hit out and claimed the US report on the origins of COVID-19 “is not scientifically credible”.
Beijing said it was false to claim that China is obstructing a global investigation of the pandemic.
As new variants of the coronavirus spread, the deadly pathogen has so far killed 4.6 million people worldwide.
The overall scientific consensus remains that the virus originally spread to humans via an animal, called a zoonotic transmission.
However, another theory claims that China developed the virus in a lab and it escaped, either deliberately or by accident.
On Friday US President Biden said: “The world deserves answers, and I will not rest until we get them.
“We must have a full and transparent accounting of this global tragedy.
“Nothing less is acceptable.
“We will do everything we can to trace the roots of this outbreak that has caused so much pain and death around the world.

“This is so that we can take every necessary precaution to prevent it from happening again.”
The US ordered a 90-day investigation in May, to look into “two likely scenarios”, of an animal-to-human transmission or a lab leak.
The investigation has been hampered because clinical samples and data from the earliest cases of coronavirus in China have been difficult to gain access to.
Mr Biden added: “To this day, the PRC continues to reject calls for transparency and withhold information, even as the toll of this pandemic continues to rise.”
In response, Fu Cong, the Chinese foreign ministry director-general, said “scapegoating China cannot whitewash the US”.
He added: “If they want to baselessly accuse China, they better be prepared to accept the counterattack from China.”
