Harry’s ‘thoughts with Princess Diana’ on birthday as he turns same age she died

Prince Harry's 36th birthday will mark a significant occasion as it is the same age his mum Princess Diana died, according to a royal expert.

The Duke of Sussex is celebrating his birthday in Los Angeles with wife Meghan Markle.

They have been unable to return to the UK due to the coronavirus pandemic, likely making this his first ever birthday away from friends and family.

But at 36, it marks the same age Diana was when she died in 1997 in a horrific car crash in Paris.

Fitzwilliams told Daily Star Online: "It is indeed tragic, obviously it's sad that the particular ages coincide, so obviously it is likely that in any such celebration or milestone, that she will be in his thoughts as she always I think has been."

He added: "My feeling is, as I'm sur in all his birthdays, his thoughts will have been with his late mother, there is no doubt about that."

The birthday marks Harry's first since he and Meghan stepped down as senior royals at the start of the year.

And Fitzwilliams believes this will be a source of happiness for the Duke.

He told us: "Indeed it is the first he will be in the US and that obviously it's a completely new career, it's very different from past years.

"Bearing in mind the turbulent last year it has been for them and the royal family with them stepping down, something no one would predicted a couple of year ago, I think that certainly the way they are viewing things at the moment, they will view it in an extremely positive light.

"Especially after this Netflix deal which has undoubtedly enabled them, as we know from statements, they will be financially self sufficient.

"I think he will think that's a huge plus, the fact they are following in the footsteps of the Obamas.

"Obviously he will be frustrated the pandemic has led them to postpone the launch of Archewell."

Diana was being driven at high speed before smashing into a tunnel pillar.

An inquest determined she was unlawfully killed by the "gross negligence" of driver Henri Paul, who was drink-driving as he tried to shake off snappers, and the paparazzi.
