Harry and Meghan mask up and hand out books to kids on charity trip

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle handed out books and helped delighted kids try on backpacks during a charity event this week.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, both wearing masks under coronavirus guidelines, volunteered with Baby2Baby at Dr Owen Lloyd Knox Elementary School in Los Angeles on Wednesday.

Harry and Meghan passed the supplies through car windows and gave passers-by thumbs up during their outing.

A source told Town & Country: “Everyone was in great spirits.

“The kids were eager to receive their books and supplies and Meghan and Harry did what they do best—engage and connect with the crowd.”

The couple were “determined to serve every last child waiting in a line that wrapped around the school” and they “chatted with the families about the upcoming school year and wished all of the kids good luck”.

Baby2Baby provides basic necessities such as nappies, wipes and clothes to help families in need.

Last month, the couple – who stepped down from the Royal Family in January – snapped up a new home in Santa Barbara, California.

A spokesperson confirmed: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved into their family home in July of this year.

"They have settled into the quiet privacy of their community since their arrival and hope that this will be respected for their neighbours, as well as for them as a family."

The coastal city is home to stars including Oprah Winfrey, a friend of the couple, and Ariana Grande.

The nine-bedroom house, which reportedly cost £11.1 million, boasts a games room, home theatre, a lift, a gym and a swimming pool.

During a recent video Harry filmed inside the mansion, eagle-eyed viewers spotted some tell-tale signs of a DIY renovation that looks to be well under way.

Harrywas taking part in a Zoom callwith a group of former Invictus Games competitors to commemorate the At Home Superhero Tri, a sporting event for disabled athletes.

A patch of pale grey paint could be seen next to a swatch of a darker colour, indicating the new homeowners are testing out colour schemes for the room.

Meghan also took part in a virtual event celebrating prominent women last week, which gave fans their very first sneak peek inside the property.
