Joe Biden, 78, will become the oldest US president in history as he is sworn in at a scaled-back ceremony in Washington this afternoon. The Democrat arrived in Washington this morning shortly after President Donald Trump’s exit on Marine One, with Mr Biden making a visit to a church alongside the two most senior Republicans in Congress: Senator Mitch McConnell and House of Representatives Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy. Now, flanked by his wife Jill, he has taken to the stage to begin his inauguration ceremony.

Why is Jill Biden a Doctor?

Dr Jill Biden met her now husband Joe on a blind date in 1975, with the aspiring teach marrying the soon to be President of the US two years later in 1977.

Following their marriage, she became the stepmother to Beau and Hunter, his two sons from his first marriage.

The couple also have a daughter together, Ashley, who was born in 1981.

As Jill prepares to become the First Lady of the US today, however, it is her doctorate that has people interested.
