In a bid to provide the relevant information and infrastructure needed for the study of distributed ledger technology (DLT), Turkey’s BlockchainIST, Bahcesehir University (BAU), the region’s first university-level center for blockchain research, has erected a state-of-the-art DLT center at Boston’s Northeastern University, reports Daily Sabah on May 8, 2019.

The BAU-NEU Blockchain Center now Live

Per sources close to the matter, the BAU has joined forces with the 121-year old Northeastern University to unveil a modern blockchain technology center at the latter’s premises, to provide information support to the American institution of higher learning.

The BAU has hinted that the blockchain center will apply for funds from various regions including the European Union (EU), the U.S. and of course Turkey, and these funds will be used for blockchain research and development.

While Turkey, a nation with a population of nearly 84 million people already occupies the frontline in terms of affinity for bitcoin and altcoins, the team behind the new project firmly believe that the launch of the BAU-NEU blockchain center will potentially increase Turkey’s competitive power in the DLT ecosystem.

The team also hopes that the center will students from across the globe, who are looking to specialize in the fast-evolving blockchain technology.

Excellent Synergy

Commenting on the development, chairman of the BAU Board of Trustees, Enver Yucel, expressed excitement over the Turkey-US alliance, describing the collaboration as a nice synergy.

“No university in the world can do everything on its own. I figured this out a little late. After that, we tried to enter where in the world is the most powerful in specific areas,”

Professor Tommaso Melodia from Northeastern University also noted that the partnership between both universities is a forward-thinking maneuver that would enable them to carry out more groundbreaking research on the nascent blockchain technology. Melodia declared:

“We aim to give the ability to consume less electricity to the internet of the future and ensure the wireless communication of objects and people,”

At a time when some observers still doubt the potentials of blockchain technology, Bora Erdamar, director of BlockchainIST  Center has predicted DLT has all it takes to eliminate all issues of trust and revolutionize a vast array of sectors in the global economy including logistics, fintech, health, and even education.
