The Legends Room (link kind of NSFW), the world’s first Bitcoin strip club, had decided to issue its own cryptocurrency which will be used to purchase drinks and dances at the club, and distributed through a custom mobile app.
Dancers are temporarily tattooed with QR codes which can be scanned, the dancers being paid in bitcoin or the club’s cryptocurrency.
The Legends’ cryptocurrency (LGD) is issued via Ethereum, a decentralized, blockchain-based computing platform that allows for the creation of custom tokens, with which you can be used to pay for services available in the club. As well as paying for services, the cryptographic token the only way through which you can get a VIP membership, which is available to anyone holding more than 5000 LGD, or at the current Bitcoin valuation and LGD exchange rate.
Those who decide to pay via cryptocurrency will receive a 20 per cent discount.
CEO of Bitcoin Direct Peter Klamka, also the creator of LGD and manager of Legends Room’s cryptocurrency, said that the aimed to create an environment that puts emphasis on exclusivity and anonymity, focusing on creating an atmosphere that’s less about strip club and more VIP -oriented. The Legends Room was opened in partnership with martial arts trainer Nick Blomgren, who came up with the idea so customers can keep their visits a secret from their partners.
The ladies working here were encouraged to take ”Bitcoin trainings”, to be prepared to answer all types of crypto-related questions, and according to Klamka, now have “master’s degree-level of understanding” regarding the subject.
“While every other place is hassling you for shots, we’ll have a girl walking around with an iPad who can assist you and help you buy bitcoins. We also offer private areas where you can discuss digital currency, among other things. We call them ‘conversation rooms,’” says Klamka.
Along regular cash machines, bitcoin ATM’s are also present in the club. Though these ATM’s, one can buy digital coins. You put money into the “ATM,” hold up your phone, and the machine sends bitcoins on your mobile device.
“Someone can go into the Legends Room and pay the young ladies by waving their phone over the QR code on her shoulder. It’s the gameification of the club environment.”
The news of being one of the first clubs to implement digital currency payments has generated a huge amount of publicity for Legends Room, earning them a thousand members, all prior to their August 23rd grand opening.
“There aren’t a lot of places to spend bitcoin and the price has gone up this year, so there’s a lot of excess dollars floating around in a primarily young male market,” notes Klamka. “At Legends, you can buy drinks, tip the girl and there’s no credit card statement going home to the wife. Bitcoin isn’t anonymous but there’s no statement—doesn’t say where, what or why—just a transferring of coins, and no way to prove what you spent them on.”
